Dear Customer,
Currently, the annual expenditure required to maintain and update our aerial mapping system has surpassed the revenue generated by our existing fee structure. To put it simply, we are spending more yearly to keep these maps operational than we are bringing in.
To ensure the long-term sustainability of this resource, we must bridge this gap.
Maintaining accurate, high-resolution aerial imagery is a significant but necessary investment. These maps are the foundation of our assessment work and provide critical data for various county functions. The costs associated with this include:
- Frequent Flyovers: Regular aerial surveys are required to capture new construction, land changes, and infrastructure updates.
- Data Processing: Converting raw aerial imagery into functional, layered GIS data is a highly technical and expensive process.
- Storage and Integration: Hosting large-scale, high-definition imagery requires secure, robust infrastructure that meets modern standards.
Our goal is to continue providing you with the most accurate and up-to-date mapping possible. By adjusting our fees, we can ensure that our GIS department remains solvent and that we are not operating at a loss; while still providing the precision you expect from our office.
The new fee schedule will take effect on April 27, 2026 I have attached a detailed breakdown of these changes for your review.
Thank you for your understanding and your continued support as we work to keep Scott County’s records accurate and accessible.
Best regards,
Julie Moore
