Scott County was established on February 16, 1839 from a portion of Morgan County. Scott County adopted its name from a county in the neighboring state of Kentucky through the influence of emigrants from that state.
According to the latest census information from April 1, 2020 the population is 4,949. The county covers approximately 250.8 square miles, and averages 19.6 people per square mile. The county seat is in Winchester, located at 35 East Market Street.
